1. Domestic Meetings

In the pioneer days, Korean Home Economics Association (KHEA) organized monthly meetings.
Each month KHEA organized meetings such as seminars, special lectures, demonstrations and group meetings based on current issues of Home Economics, woman¡¯s right, transforming recent information into modern home life, etc. The first nationwide Korean Home Economics Association conference was held November 4, 1961 in Dong Duk Women¡¯s University with a theme of ¡°Home Economics: New Directions¡±. Subsequent conferences took place either in October or in November until 1978.

Since 1979, the KHEA has organized nationwide conferences two times a year, usually in the last week of April and October, and 1-2 workshops yearly on a variety of topics. Conferences and Workshops organized by the KHEA have been highly attended events that allow scholars in every aspect of the Home Economics field to meet together and learn from one another. These meetings have included individual research presentation, symposia, invited lectures based on the theme of conference and discussion sessions. These have been times for unparalleled professional development and renewal.


2. International Meetings

The Korean Home Economics Association hosted several Korea-Japan Joint Home Economics seminars in Seoul, Korea. The seminars took place in 1979, 1982, 1985, 1990 and 1997. The 7th Korea-Japan Joint Home Economics Seminar took placed in July 19, 1997 with a theme of ¡°Information Society and Culture in Living Environment: a Comparison of Korean and Japanese Culture¡±. Due to overlapping of many international meetings, the Korea-Japan Joint Home Economics Seminar was discontinued after the 7th meeting. In 1997, KHEA hosted the 9th Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE) conference that was held July 16-18 in Seoul, Korea with 492 in attendance. The theme of the conference was ¡°New Paradigm of Home Economics for 21st Century: Challenges and Perspectives¡±.

1. The Journal of Korean Home Economics Association

The Korean Home Economics Association (KHEA) publishes two academic journals. The first issue of the Journal of Korean Home Economics Association was published in 1959. Since its inception, the Journal of Korean Home Economics Association has been the leading academic journal and has featured scientific methods and applications in the field of Home Economics. It has now become a monthly publication and is written in Korean with abstracts in English. Each issue of the Journal averages 200 pages with a total circulation of over 1000 copies. The articles are blind reviewed by specialists.


2. International Journal of Human Ecology

By the year 2000, KHEA had expanded its activities by publishing an English edition of the Journal of the KHEA once a year in December to facilitate professional exchanges among researchers all over the world. The name of the English edition journal was changed in 2003 to the International Journal of Human Ecology and published two issues a year in June and December.


3. Other Publications

The KHEA has published an extensive line of books, brochures, and newsletters. Books from the KHEA are History of the Korean Home Economics Association (1984), History of the Korean Home Economics Association over the Past Fifty Years (1997), Living Information and Internet (1999), Human and Living Environment (1998), Sexuality Education (2001), and Cultural Life in Korea (2003). In February 1993, Number 1 of the Association¡¯s official newsletter appeared. The newsletter has been published two times per year on average and has contained reports on the latest news and activities of member societies.
